JOURNEY OF SHIVANK AND HER MOTHER
KRISHNA AT SPORTABILITY
s I listened to her, Krishna’s voice trembled to
reveal the immense emotional weight of her
Ajourney: “Pichhle saal depression me chali gai
thi main yahan aakar mujhe bahut shanti milti hai. (I
went into depression last year. I feel at peace here)”.
Her face reflected a flurry of emotions within a single
moment, and it was overwhelming to witness.ac
Krishna is the Mother of 11-year-old Shivank-a child
with autism. Shivank is her only child. For the past one
and a half years he has been attending Sportability
Academy. His father works in Ahmedabad, while
Shivank lives with his mother and grandparents in
Badarpur. When he was 18 months old, Krishna noticed
he wasn’t developing like other children of his age.
Sensing something unusual, she took him to a doctor
who referred them to a neurologist. It was then that
they discovered Shivank was on the Autism spectrum.
Shivank’s therapy began at an early stage, but the cost
was high. To manage his medical care affordably, Krishna
moved to Delhi to live with her parents, as treatment
was less expensive compared to Ahmadabad. Managing
Shivank’s therapy alongside taking care of her in-laws
and parents took a heavy toll on Krishna. Over time, the

overwhelming responsibilities led her
into depression. During such a difficult
time, Krishna heard about Sportability
Academy through an NGO, with which
she is associated and decided to enroll
Shivank here and that’s how her journey of
transformation with Sportability Began.
The academy has been instrumental in
Shivank’s development. It has improved
his attention span, focus, agility, and
physical and intellectual growth. For
Krishna, Sportability became her lifeline.
It helped her cope with depression,
bringing her much-needed peace and
mental well-being.

academy in her own words.
“I am receiving tremendous support from this
academy, which has become like a second family
to me. I feel safe, welcomed, and at ease here. The
numerous activities they conduct have significantly
improved Shivanks’s focus and comprehension
skills.
Being here gives me a sense of relief, knowing
that my child is in capable hands and is engaging
in productive tasks. Another benefit is that I get to
interact with other parents. Through them, I learn
about new activities and approaches they use with
their children at home.
It brings me immense satisfaction to be a part of
a community where people truly understand my
feelings, emotions, and everyday challenges, and
also offer solutions. We stay in constant touch,
having exchanged numbers, and often connect
over the phone for support. I am eagerly waiting
for the day when Shivank will pursue any one of the
sports like football or cricket and make a name for
himself.”
